You’re not imagining it—you really are stretched too thin

Life feels nonstop, like you’re being pulled in every direction at once. Somewhere in the middle of motherhood, you’ve lost parts of yourself—and cleaning up spilled milk with a messy bun wasn’t exactly the future you pictured on repeat.

Every day blurs into the next: exhausting, demanding, and somehow never enough. And financially? It feels like no matter how hard you work, you’re barely keeping up. Almost like living the same day on repeat—your own version of Groundhog Day.

Here’s the truth: you’re not lazy, and you’re not broken. You’re simply craving freedom—and it’s not just about money. Sometimes it looks like a moment of self-care without guilt. Sometimes it’s as small as grabbing that iced coffee without having to justify it while you rush to grocery pick-up.

Motherhood is both everything and… not enough

Motherhood is the hardest, most rewarding job you’ll ever do. But let’s be real: that doesn’t mean it fills every part of you.

  • You love your kids more than anything, yet you still crave something that’s yours.

  • You feel guilty for dreaming about financial independence or starting a business.

  • You sometimes yell more than you’d like because you’re running on empty.

You’re not alone. And you’re not wrong for feeling this way. So much of the struggle comes down to mindset—the belief that moms must choose between motherhood or independence. But that’s a false choice.

Here’s the thing: if we want our children to dream big and chase meaningful goals, the best way to guide them is by example. Pursuing your passions alongside parenting shows them what’s possible.

Kids don’t just listen to what we say—they mirror what we do. So if you notice a behavior in your child that you’d like to change, the first step is to reflect inward: Am I modeling something similar? Often, the answer is yes. And when we shift, they start to shift too.

If we want to raise resilient, successful kids, we have to let them see the whole process: dreaming, working, failing, and the trying again. Failure isn’t the opposite of success—it’s part of the journey. And when our children watch us navigate it with courage, they learn they can too.

Why Moms Like You Crave Freedom

The truth is, moms in business—or moms just starting a business—aren’t chasing money alone. What you’re really craving is options. Freedom looks different for everyone, but here’s what I hear most often:

1. You want your time back

Time is the one thing you can’t create more of. When you’re splitting yourself between a 9–5 and motherhood, it can feel like you’re constantly being robbed of it. Freedom means:

  • Not missing every school play, sick day, or surprise early dismissal.

  • Being able to handle pick-ups and drop-offs without feeling like you’re juggling a circus act.

  • Actually having evenings where you’re not collapsing, exhausted, before the kids are even in bed.

And if you’re a stay-at-home mom, you may still be craving options too. Maybe it’s about easing the financial burden, saying “yes” a little more often instead of watching the budget dictate every decision, or simply having a rainy-day fund for when life gets messy—as it always does.

2. You want security, not just survival

Depending solely on a paycheck—or your partner—puts all your eggs in one basket. And baskets can break. Illness, divorce, job layoffs, or unexpected loss happen. Building even a small business gives you:

  • A financial cushion when life throws curveballs.

  • A way to contribute without giving up your role as mom.

  • Retirement savings you’re creating for yourself.

This part isn’t talked about enough: when women step out of the workforce, starting over often means going back to the bottom—no matter your education or experience. And every year out of the workforce is also a year you’re not putting aside for retirement. The truth is, the system isn’t built with moms in mind. Women absorb the sacrifices, and too often, we live with the long-term consequences.

3. You want to model possibility for your kids

Freedom isn’t selfish—it’s generational. When you build something of your own, you’re teaching your kids by example:

  • They can design their own life.

  • They don’t have to follow a script that doesn’t fit them.

  • Money is a tool, not a chain.

You’re showing them that life doesn’t have to be a cycle of school → degree → one job for 40 years → two weeks of vacation (if they’re lucky) → retirement at the end. You want them to believe, deep down, that anything is possible.

And the best way to do that? Live it yourself.

Mindset plays a huge role here. Every reality already exists—you simply have to believe in it and take inspired action toward it. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Your version of freedom may look different from mine, and that’s okay.

When you decide what you truly want and begin living like it’s already within reach, doors open. Opportunities show up. Miracles happen.

The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything

So many moms believe they have to fit inside a particular box:

  • Office job = financial independence, but less time with kids.

  • Stay-at-home = more time with kids, but less money of your own.

But here’s the truth: there are infinite possibilities. Every reality is available to you, and if you don’t like the one you’re in—you have the power to change it.

Freedom begins with belief. Belief that:

  • You don’t have to work a 9–5 forever.

  • You don’t have to choose between being a present mom or making money.

  • Your dreams matter just as much as anyone else’s.

Take a deep breath. Ask yourself: If I could have anything as a mom, what would that look like?

Picture it clearly. Imagine what your days would feel like if it was already true. Let yourself experience that freedom, that ease, that joy. Then—start making decisions as if that life is already yours. Because it is within reach.

This isn’t wishful thinking—it’s about aligning your mindset with the reality you want. You don’t have to settle for the “either/or” path you were taught. You get to create a version of motherhood and financial independence that actually works for you.

My Story: The Moment I Realized I Wanted More

When my son was little, I thought there was only one way to do life. I worked full-time, rushed him to daycare, picked him up late, and carried the crushing weight of missing out on so much. I was exhausted—too tired to even imagine that another reality was possible.

After divorce, I was deeply grateful for my paycheck. It kept us afloat. But the truth? It also drained me. My evenings were soaked in guilt. My weekends disappeared into laundry and errands. The most consistent time I had with him was when he was already asleep.

I can still hear his tiny voice saying, “Mama’s have to work.” At the time, I smiled and thought it was cute—because I truly didn’t see another option. But years later, that memory breaks my heart. I didn’t have him so someone else could raise him. Yet in those formative years, I missed more than I ever wanted to.

That season of life was brutal. But it cracked something open in me: the realization that I had options. I didn’t have to choose between motherhood and financial independence. I could create a different path—one where I could provide for my family and be present for the moments that matter most.

And that’s why I share my story with you now: because you don’t have to settle either. You can build a life where you make money and soak up these fleeting years—without burning yourself out in the process.

Practical Ways to Start Creating Freedom Today

You don’t need to flip your whole life upside down to find freedom. It’s built one choice, one action, one small shift at a time. Here are some simple places to start:

1. Redefine freedom for yourself

  • Write down what freedom looks like in your life—more time, more flexibility, more financial independence.

  • Notice the beliefs that say, “That’s not possible for me.” Then gently challenge and disprove them.

2. Create space for you

  • Even 20 minutes a day can make a difference. Use that time to dream, plan, or learn something new.

  • Protect it from distractions (yes, even endless scrolling). Small, intentional actions compound into big results.

3. Explore income beyond the 9–5

  • Blogging (my favorite business model—no social media required).

  • Digital products that earn while you sleep.
